Computation of Optimal Spacing and Density of Bus Rapid Transit Stations Using Evolutionary Algorithms

Abstract In this research, a feasible mechanism is developed to determine the optimum number of bus rapid transit (BRT) stations as well their respective locations along service corridor. To accomplish this, mathematical model and optimized by using three different evolutionary algorithms, namely particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), differential evolution (DE), results are compared. The total cost function composed two main costs operator’s cost, i.e., related on provider’s end, user’s commuters’ end. A functional numerical example with demand worked out minimizing function, which demonstrates applicability framework. our case study, PSO outclassed GA DE basis convergence rate. Since work has proved robustness compared DE, we conducted sensitivity analysis keeping benchmark study influence various parameters optimal cost. computational experiments reveal that substantially affected variations in demand, walking speed, value users’ access in-vehicle time. On contrary, acceleration/deceleration delays at station, operating headway have an inconsiderable impact
